Leena Romu

Leena Romu (Ph.L., MA, Finnish literature) is a doctoral student at University of Tampere writing her PhD dissertation on representations of embodied experiences in Finnish comics. In the dissertation, she analyzes depictions of bodies that breach normative body images and gender expectations. Especially, she is interested to study what kinds of narrative and verbo-visual strategies are used for portraying feminist ideologies in comics made by female authors. Romu’s theoretical interests stretch from narratology to gender studies and she has taught courses concerned with comics and transmedial storytelling. Romu is a member of NNCORE – Nordic Network for Comics Research.
